These studio sessions became part of Brother Ali's album "US". We set out as a three-person team to meet with a Seattle based producer and mingle with locals, extracting the things they love about their city. This project is currently in the works and will offer up a unique perspective on the Pacific Northwest and what it means to get to the heart and soul of a destination. You see some bizarre things here in Minnesota and the ice fishing subculture is just one of them. But, really, what else are we to do in this frozen tundra? Not being fishermen ourselves, there was only one thing to do... document it. On a cold March afternoon, we went north out of Minneapolis and caught the tales of those brave souls who; come rain, sleet or snow, are out there putting their time in on the lake. In the end, we put together an interactive experience that lets the user explore this world through images, motion, interviews and ambience. An Icelandic Minnesotan, author, essayist, poet, musician and composer; Bill Holm was and continues to be an inspiration. Needless to say we were thrilled when Velvetpeel asked Jonathan to photograph Bill Holm for a book commemorating the McKnight Foundation’s 2008 Distinguished Artist. Jonathan's time with the artist was very moving and consequently he looked to invoko to produce a Flash based video to work within his portfolio web site adding depth and context to this story.
